FAQ
Where were you born?
I was born in Vancouver, BC, Canada and grew up in the tranquil suburbs of Burnaby. Michael J. Fox was my neighbor (sort of). My family still happily lives there. Now I live in South Korea.
Is Justin Patrick your real name?
Yes it is. My full name is Justin Patrick Chan. My stage name is Justin Patrick for three reasons:
One, being an entertainer, I didn’t want to be confused with Jackie Chan (although I do consider him my biological father)
Two, being a singer, I didn’t want to be confused with any silly Asian stereotypes (I write and sing songs in English only for now… though I could sing in Canto-Chinese pop if I tried hard)
Three, my mother named me Patrick as a sign of good luck… plus it has a nice ring to it she says.
Why are you living in Korea?
Good question. My mother is Korean and I wasn’t really exposed to any Korean culture growing up (aside from eating kimchi). After I graduated from university I earned a chance to live abroad and learn more about my mother’s roots… and make a bit of money teaching English here to help fund my music (a lot better than flipping burgers).
I plan on returning to Canada real soon since my mom misses me so much.
Do you like Kpop?
sure ^^
Are you gay?
Haha sorry no …but thanks for asking. I love all kinds of people (especially ones wearing miniskirts).
What type of music do you like?
I rarely enjoy sitting down and listening to whole albums, however if I like a song I will play it on my ipod to death! This list will give you an idea of what I like.
Will you be performing new material?
I’m always working on new stuff. I released two albums Preface and In Time which are both available now for purchase. My latest album is currently being recorded and will be released late 2011.
What is your goal in life?
I’m not interested in being signed by a major record label or winning a Grammy. My goal is to make music that I am happy with and find (and work with) people who enjoy listening to my songs, coming to my shows and connecting with me. I’ve been doing this now for more than ten years now and I still believe in my goal. If I become famous that’s cool too.
Will you perform a concert in my country?
Sure! I love to perform and travel. If you are in Seoul come check out my shows.
